- Review and analyze medical and vision plan records and documentation to ensure accurate coding and billing - Assign appropriate ICD-9 or ICD-10 codes to diagnoses and procedures - Enter coded information into the billing system for reimbursement purposes - Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for medical services - Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on unpaid or denied claims - Communicate with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries and disputes - Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations - Stay updated on changes in medical coding guidelines and reimbursement policies Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a medical office/optometry practice - Proficient knowledge of medical coding systems, including ICD-9 and ICD-10 - Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures - Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing processes - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Knowledge of medical collection systems and practices is a plus Please note that this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required for this position.
